Creative Writing Now Presents: Ling Ma in Conversation with Kim Magowan

bis

Massachusetts, Massachusetts

In her debut novel Severance, prizewinning writer Ling Ma imagines an epidemic that leaves people endlessly repeating the routines of their former lives. The New Yorker called the novel an “of-the-moment consideration of capitalism, immigration, and zombies.” Ma’s story collection Bliss Montage moves between the ordinary and the surreal, exploring love, friendship, and the lives people might have lived. Across both books, Ma’s speculative writing renders the routines of contemporary life strange, revealing the forces that shape daily experience, from intimate relationships to global systems of work and consumption. Ma will read from her work, followed by a conversation with Kim Magowan, creative writing faculty member at Mills College at Northeastern University (MCNU). All are welcome to attend this free online event. Students interested in our Mills College Creative Writing minor and/or currently enrolled in our classes are especially welcome.
