MITEI Presents: Advancing the Energy Transition with Roger Martella

bis

Building E51, Wong Auditorium, Suffolk

Please join us for a discussion with Roger Martella, chief corporate officer, head of global government affairs and policy, and chief sustainability officer at GE Vernova on "The era of action: Channeling a historic cycle of energy investment toward people and planet." We are now in a historic supercycle of energy investment and innovation, on a scale not seen since World War II. As investment accelerates, the defining question is no longer whether to invest, but how to harness this unprecedented opportunity to achieve far more than meeting the world’s energy needs. This era has the potential to expand prosperity, accelerate breakthrough technologies, strengthen energy security and economic competitiveness, revitalize industry and develop the workforce of the future, and advance decarbonization and address climate change. The focus of this discussion is how governments, companies, and other stakeholders can deliberately channel these investments to advance multiple objectives simultaneously and help solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges with a call to action for all of us to participate. This event is for the MIT Community. Please register with an MIT.edu email address. About the speaker Roger Martella is chief corporate officer, head of global government affairs and policy, and chief sustainability officer at GE Vernova. In this role, Martella engages the world’s top public and private sector leaders to solve the energy trilemma of affordability, reliability, and sustainability. Prior to joining GE in 2017, Martella served as general counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency during the George W. Bush administration, where he was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate, and as principal counsel for complex litigation for the Department of Justice’s Natural Resources Section, where he won every case he litigated. Martella also co-led Sidley Austin LLP's global environmental and climate change practices and was recognized by his peers as the top lawyer in the field globally. Martella is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the boards of the Atlantic Council, the ClearPath Foundation, and the American Conservation Coalition. About the MITEI Presents: Advancing the Energy Transition speaker series We are in the midst of a major global shift in the types of energy we use and the ways we use them. We know that if we are to stabilize the planet’s climate and eliminate harmful emissions, we must transform our energy systems. This speaker series will connect you with energy experts and leaders who are actively working on the scientific, technological, and policy solutions we urgently need, and will explore how we must work together to accelerate this complicated process.
