Saint Peter – Twenty Hill, one of Antigua's earliest human sites
Saint Peter is home to one of the oldest chapters of Antigua's history: Twenty Hill near Parham is one of the two earliest and most significant sites of human occupation on the island, dating back to around 1775 BC. The parish itself was founded on 24 August 1681 and permanently established with the other original parishes in 1692. It originally included the New North Sound division, which split off in 1725 to become Saint George. A map from 1782 shows 27 plantations here worked by enslaved people. Today Saint Peter is largely farmland and savanna, with Parham as its capital and part of the town of All Saints. Do you know more stories from Saint Peter? Share them here in Local History!
