Kukës County – Mountain land at Albania's northeastern crossroads

Kukës County lies in the mountainous northeast of Albania, with the town of Kukës as its capital. It borders Montenegro, Kosovo and North Macedonia, as well as the Albanian counties of Dibër, Lezhë and Shkodër – a location that has long made it a meeting point of peoples, roads and traditions. The county is divided into three municipalities: Has, Kukës and Tropojë, each with its own villages, customs and stories. With around 62,000 inhabitants in 2021 across more than 2,300 square kilometres, it remains a sparsely populated land of high valleys and rivers. Its history lives on in the memories of its people.
