Korçë County – Albania's largest county on the southeastern border
Korçë County, in southeastern Albania, is the largest of the country's twelve counties by area, covering more than 3,700 square kilometres and home to over 173,000 people. It borders North Macedonia and Greece, and its six municipalities – Korçë, Devoll, Kolonjë, Maliq, Pogradec and Pustec – reflect a varied landscape of plains, mountains and lakes. The city of Korçë has long been a cultural centre of the south, and it is widely remembered as the place where the first Albanian-language school opened in 1887. Pogradec, on the shore of Lake Ohrid, adds its own long history. Do you know more stories from Korçë County? Share them here in Local History!
