Fier County – Home of ancient Apollonia on the Adriatic
Fier County in southwestern Albania is home to the ruins of Apollonia, one of the most important ancient cities on the Adriatic coast, founded by Greek colonists. Over the centuries the fertile plains between the mountains and the sea attracted settlers, traders and farmers. Today the county, with its six municipalities of Fier, Divjakë, Lushnjë, Mallakastër, Patos and Roskovec, is the third most populous in Albania, with about 240,000 people. It borders the Adriatic Sea to the west and the counties of Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Gjirokastër and Vlorë. Its towns and villages hold many local stories. Do you know more stories from Fier County?
