The Valley, Anguilla – Wallblake House and colonial heritage since 1787
The Valley's most prominent historic landmark is Wallblake House, a plantation home built around 1787. It is one of the few surviving examples of colonial architecture here, because Anguilla's administration was moved to St. Kitts in 1825. Today the house belongs to the Catholic Church and serves as the home of the parish priest, next to St. Gerard's Church with its striking pebble-and-stone façade.
On Crocus Hill, the island's highest point, the ruins of the Old Court House can still be found, with the broken walls of a few basement jail cells. Today The Valley is a lively place, with new shops in modern buildings and renovated West Indian-style cottages. Do you have memories of old Valley life? Add your stories for everyone to discover!
