Saint Thomas – The landlocked heart of Barbados
Saint Thomas lies in the centre of Barbados and is one of only two landlocked parishes on the island, together with Saint George to the south. Without a coastline of its own, its history has been shaped by the land: rural communities, fields and villages in the island's interior.
The area of Sturges in Saint Thomas hosts a number of the island's broadcast antennas, making the parish quietly important for communication across Barbados.
Today Saint Thomas remains a green, inland parish with a close-knit feel. Much of its local history lives on in the memories of its residents rather than in books. Share your stories, photos and family traditions from Saint Thomas here and help write the parish's history together.
