South Andros – the southern third of Andros Island
South Andros forms the southernmost third of the land mass known as Andros, which also includes North Andros, Central Andros and Mangrove Cay. Like the rest of Andros, the district has been shaped by the sea, its creeks and wide flats, and by the small settlements where families have lived from fishing and farming for generations. Its history is largely an oral one, carried on in the stories of its communities rather than in written records. In 2022 the district was home to about 3,700 people. Today South Andros is a quiet part of the Bahamas, valued for its nature and its island way of life. Do you know stories, traditions or family memories from South Andros?
