North Andros – the largest district of the Bahamas
North Andros is the largest district of the Bahamas by area and home to some of the biggest settlements on Andros Island. The physical island of North Andros is even larger than the district and, together with Mangrove Cay and South Andros, forms the island group known as Andros. Its wide landscapes of pine forest, creeks and coastline have long shaped the lives of the families who settled here, living from the land and the sea. Much of its history has been handed down orally from one generation to the next. According to the 2022 census, about 4,000 people live in the district today.
