Central Eleuthera – Governor's Harbour at the heart of Eleuthera

Central Eleuthera lies on Eleuthera, the island where English Puritans known as the Eleutheran Adventurers founded a settlement in 1648 in search of religious freedom – the island's name comes from the Greek word for “free”. Its capital, Governor's Harbour, is the district's largest settlement and one of the long-established towns of the island. Over the centuries, life here has been shaped by the sea, farming and the close ties between the island's small communities. Today Central Eleuthera is one of five districts on the island, a peaceful place of beaches and historic town houses.
