West Grand Bahama – West End and the island's historic settlements
West Grand Bahama covers the whole western part of Grand Bahama island, apart from the city of Freeport, which forms its own district. Its history is told through a string of long-standing communities such as Eight Mile Rock, Hunters, Lewis Yard, Pinder's Point, Holmes Rock, Bootle Bay and, at the island's western tip, West End. West End's development has long been shaped by the hotel and marina at the tip of the island, today known as Old Bahama Bay. Fishing, the sea and close family ties have shaped everyday life in these settlements for generations. Today the district is a mix of quiet villages and coastal communities.
