Trashiyangtse – a Bhutanese district created in 1992
Trashiyangtse became a district of its own in 1992, when it was separated from Trashigang District in eastern Bhutan. Its history, however, is much older than this administrative step: the valleys here have long been home to farming communities, monasteries and the Buddhist traditions that shape Bhutanese life. The district covers about 1,438 square kilometres of mountainous terrain, where villages, fields and forests are closely linked. Today Trashiyangtse is one of Bhutan's twenty dzongkhags, a place where rural traditions remain very much alive. Do you know stories, legends or family memories from Trashiyangtse? Share them here with the community and help record the local history of this eastern valley!
