Tsirang District – Gentle hills along the Punatsang Chhu

Tsirang, formerly spelled Chirang, is a district in southern-central Bhutan with its administrative centre at Damphu. It is known for its gentle slopes, mild climate and rich biodiversity, and one of Bhutan's longest rivers, the Punatsang Chhu, flows through its valleys.

The district's history is one of different communities living side by side. The Ngalong of northern Tsirang are regarded as its early settlers, while Lhotshampa communities arrived later, and together with other groups they shape Tsirang's cultural mix. Today the district is a green, agricultural region with a friendly, rural character. Do you have family memories or village stories from Tsirang? We warmly invite you to add them here!
