Mongar District – Eastern Bhutan's fastest-growing hub

Mongar is regarded as the fastest-developing district in eastern Bhutan. Once a remote region of steep valleys, it has grown into a lively centre for the east, with a regional hospital and a busy local economy.

The district has its own distinctive traditions and products: Mongar is known for lemon grass, from which an essential oil is produced, and the Kuri Chhu river powers a hydroelectric plant that stands for the region's modern development. Mongar is also said to have the longest working hours of all Bhutanese districts – a sign of its hard-working spirit. Today it links tradition with progress.
