Trongsa District – The geographic heart of Bhutan
Trongsa is the most central district of Bhutan, and the country's geographic centre lies within it at Trongsa Dzong. From this commanding position the dzong long controlled the route between the west and east of the kingdom, giving its governors great influence.
Trongsa holds a special place in the history of the monarchy: it is the ancestral seat of the Wangchuck dynasty, and by tradition the crown prince serves as Trongsa Penlop, governor of Trongsa, before ascending the throne.
