Ghanzi District – Gateway to the Central Kalahari

Ghanzi, sometimes spelled Gantsi, stretches from the Namibian border in the west deep into the interior of Botswana. Much of its eastern half forms the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, one of the great wilderness areas of southern Africa.

With an area of 117,910 km² but only 56,555 inhabitants at the 2022 census, Ghanzi is the least populous district in Botswana, and life has long been shaped by the vastness of the Kalahari. The town of Ghanzi serves as the administrative centre and as a meeting point for the scattered communities of the region. Do you have stories about Ghanzi, its farms and its people? We warmly invite you to add them here!
