Kweneng District – Where David Livingstone worked among the Bakwena
Kweneng is the historic homeland of the Bakwena people, the first community in Botswana to be converted to Christianity by the famous missionary David Livingstone. Landmarks such as Livingstone's Cave still recall this chapter of history.
The district's government seat is Molepolole, Botswana's most populous village, surpassed in size only by the two cities of Gaborone and Francistown. Kweneng lies in the heart of southern Botswana and borders six other districts. Today it combines traditional village life with close ties to the nearby capital.
