Warwick Academy – Bermuda's oldest school, founded in 1662

Founded in 1662, Warwick Academy is the oldest school in Bermuda and a remarkable piece of the island’s colonial history. It is named after Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick, the English colonial administrator who gave the original land. Its first schoolmaster was Richard Norwood, the mathematician famous for carrying out the first and second surveys of Bermuda in 1616 and 1627 – maps that shaped how the island was divided and settled.

For more than three and a half centuries the school has educated generations of Bermudians in Warwick Parish. Its long history connects today’s pupils with the island’s earliest days. Did you or your family go to Warwick Academy? We would love to read your stories and memories here.
