Saint Patrick Parish, Dominica – Grand Bay (Berekua) and the villages of the south
Saint Patrick is one of Dominica's ten parishes, stretching across the island's southeast. Its largest settlements are Grand Bay, still known by its older name Berekua, and La Plaine, surrounded by a string of villages such as Petite Savanne, Delices, Bagatelle and Tete Morne. For generations, life here has been shaped by farming on steep, fertile slopes, by fishing along the rugged coast and by close-knit village communities. Many of the village names, some French and some English, reflect the island's layered colonial past. Today about 8,400 people call the parish home, and its landscapes of rivers, cliffs and forest draw hikers and visitors. Do you have stories from Grand Bay, La Plaine or your own village?
