Saint David Parish, Dominica – home of the Kalinago Territory
Saint David lies on Dominica's eastern side and borders five other parishes, more than any other on the island. It is the home of the Kalinago Territory, where descendants of the Kalinago, the indigenous people who lived on the island long before European ships arrived, continue to keep their culture, crafts and traditions alive. Their presence makes the parish a place of special importance for the history of Dominica and the wider Caribbean. The parish covers about 131 square kilometres of rugged Atlantic coast and green interior, with around 6,800 inhabitants. Today visitors come to learn about Kalinago heritage and to enjoy the unspoilt landscape. Do you have family stories or local memories from Saint David? Please share them with the community here.
