Western Division – Lautoka, the sugar city of western Viti Levu

The Western Division covers the west and north of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island, and its history is closely tied to sugar cane. Its capital Lautoka, the largest city of the division, is widely known as Fiji's 'Sugar City', and cane fields have long shaped the landscape and daily life of the region.

The division brings together three provinces, Ba, Nadroga-Navosa and Ra, each with its own villages, chiefly traditions and local stories. It also includes the Yasawa and Mamanuca island groups, today well known among visitors from around the world. The region remains a lively mix of farming, fishing and tourism. Do you have memories of village life, the cane harvest or the islands? Add your own stories and help others discover the west.
