Central Division – Home of Suva, Fiji's capital
The Central Division is defined by Suva, which became Fiji's capital in the late 19th century, when the seat of government moved from Levuka. Since then the city has grown into the political, commercial and cultural centre of the country and one of the most important cities in the South Pacific.
The division covers the eastern part of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island, together with a few outlying islands such as Beqa. It brings together five provinces, Naitasiri, Namosi, Rewa, Serua and Tailevu, each with its own chiefly traditions and village communities along rivers, hills and coast. Today it is the busiest part of Fiji. Do you know old stories from your village or from Suva's past? Share them with the community.
