Lower River Division – Mansa Konko on the banks of the Gambia River

Lower River Division is one of the five administrative divisions of the Gambia, lying along the lower middle course of the Gambia River. Its administrative centre is Mansa Konko, a small town that has long served as the seat of local government for the surrounding villages.

With the local council elections of April 2002, the area received its own elected city and area council. According to the 2013 census the division had around 82,000 inhabitants, spread across rural communities where farming and the river shape everyday life.

What do the older generations in your village remember about the river, the farms and the markets? Add your own stories and photos so that the history of Lower River can be told by the people who live it.
