Potaro-Siparuni – Home of the mighty Kaieteur Falls
Potaro-Siparuni, Region 8 of Guyana, lies deep in the country's interior, bordering Brazil to the west. The region is best known for Kaieteur Falls on the Potaro River, one of the most powerful single-drop waterfalls in the world and a symbol of Guyana's natural heritage.
Life here centres on small, often remote villages such as Mahdia, Paramakatoi, Campbelltown, Orinduik and Tumatumari, many of them home to Indigenous communities with deep roots in the forests and highlands. Mining and travel along the rivers have also shaped the area's history. Today the region attracts visitors seeking untouched nature. Do you know stories from these villages or the old river trails?
