Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown – harbour town and the old barony of Rathdown
Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown carries two historic names: that of the former borough of Dún Laoghaire, the harbour town on Dublin Bay, and that of the old barony of Rathdown. For generations the harbour and the seafront have shaped life here, connecting the area with the sea and bringing travellers, sailors and day-trippers to its piers.
The county itself is young: it was created in 1994 as one of three successor counties when County Dublin was reorganised. Today it is home to more than 230,000 people, stretching from coastal villages to the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. Do you know a story about the harbour, the seafront or your own neighbourhood?
