Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica – birthplace of National Hero George William Gordon

Saint Andrew is the birthplace of George William Gordon, one of Jamaica's seven National Heroes, remembered for his stand for the rights of ordinary Jamaicans in the 19th century. The parish surrounds Kingston on three sides and stretches up into the Blue Mountains, linking the busy lowlands with cool mountain communities.

Since 1923, Saint Andrew and Kingston have formed a joint municipal unit, the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation. The parish contains many historical sites and attractions and has long been a centre of Jamaican life and culture. Today it has the largest population of any Jamaican parish, with more than 580,000 residents. Have a Saint Andrew story or family memory? Share it with the community!
