Saint George Gingerland Parish – Marketshop and the land of ginger

Saint George Gingerland, also known as Marketshop, lies in the southeast of Nevis. Its name recalls the ginger once grown here, one of the crops that shaped the parish's farming life alongside sugar cane. Over the generations, small villages grew up on the fertile slopes, where families farmed, traded and built strong community traditions.

With about 2,500 residents, Gingerland is one of the five parishes of Nevis, which together with the nine parishes of Saint Kitts form the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Today it is known for its friendly villages, local festivals and views towards the sea. Do you know a story, a tradition or a family memory from Gingerland? Share it with the community!
