Saint James Windward Parish – the windward side of Nevis
Saint James Windward is the largest of the five parishes of Nevis and of the whole Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Located in the northeastern part of the island, it faces the Atlantic trade winds, which gave the parish its name and have always shaped its weather, coastline and way of life.
For centuries, estates and villages spread across its slopes, and the history of sugar, slavery and emancipation left deep marks on its communities. Afterwards, families built their lives here through farming, fishing and hard work, and church and village traditions remain important. Today it is a peaceful rural parish.
