Saint John Capisterre Parish – the green north of Saint Kitts
Saint John Capisterre is the second-largest parish on Saint Kitts and the third-largest in the federation. Stretching across the green northern part of the island, it was for centuries dominated by sugar cane estates, whose old stone mills and ruins can still be found in the landscape.
The people who worked these lands, and their descendants after emancipation, built the villages, churches and traditions that give the parish its character today. Farming, fishing and close community ties remain important, while the mountains and coast offer beautiful scenery. Do you know a story, a tradition or a family memory from Saint John Capisterre?
