Quthing District – Dinosaur footprints and ancient San rock paintings

Quthing District in southern Lesotho is a treasure trove of deep history. Near the district town of Quthing, also called Moyeni, lie two of the region's most important sets of dinosaur footprints, left in the rock many millions of years ago. At Qomoqomong a large panel of paintings by San (Bushman) artists bears witness to the hunter-gatherers who lived in these valleys long before today's villages.

The Masitise Cave House, a satellite site of the Morija Museum & Archives, adds a further chapter of local heritage. Today Quthing is a rural border district next to South Africa's Eastern Cape, home to around 120,000 people. Have you explored these sites or do you have stories from Quthing? Share them with us!
