Arkhangai Province – Land of the Old Turkic inscriptions and Uyghur capital
Arkhangai Province lies on the northern slopes of the Khangai Mountains, in lands that were the heart of several early steppe empires. Here stand the famous Old Turkic stone inscriptions honouring the rulers of the Turkic Khaganate, among the oldest written monuments of Central Asia, and the ruins of Khar Balgas, the former capital of the Uyghur Khaganate in the Orkhon valley region.
Today the province is made up of 19 districts and is known for its green valleys, rivers, volcanic landscapes and hot springs, where herding families continue a way of life that goes back thousands of years. Do you have stories, photos or memories from Arkhangai? Share them with our community!
