Thaa Atoll – Kolhumadulu, linked to King Koimala who first united the Maldives
Thaa Atoll, traditionally called simply Kolhumadulu, carries a special place in Maldivian history. Its ancient name, Kolhumaduva, dates back to the time of King Koimala, who according to tradition united all the atolls of the Maldives under one kingdom for the first time. Maldivians still call the atoll by its old name, while "Thaa" is only the code letter of the administrative division.
