Phalombe District – Farmland on the northern slopes of Mount Mulanje
Phalombe District lies in southern Malawi, on the plains north of the Mulanje Massif and along the border with Mozambique. For generations its fertile land has supported farming communities, and village life has been shaped by the mountain's rivers and the rhythm of the rainy seasons. The area's traditions, songs and family histories connect it to the wider Mulanje region.
Today Phalombe covers 1,394 km² and has around 232,000 inhabitants. The district is also home to the Songwe Hill rare earth project, which has attracted international attention. Do you have stories, photos or memories from Phalombe? We warmly invite you to share them with our community!
