Micoud District – villages and farmland on Saint Lucia's east coast

Micoud District lies on the Atlantic side of Saint Lucia, with the town of Micoud as its seat. Like many place names on the island, Micoud dates back to the French colonial era, and the district's history was long shaped by estates, sugar and later bananas, as well as by the enslaved Africans and their descendants who built its communities.

After emancipation, families established villages and small farms, and fishing along the rugged east coast became an important livelihood. The district also includes the former quarter of Praslin. With more than 16,000 residents in 2002, Micoud remains a lively rural district known for its festivals. Do you have a Micoud story or family memory? Share it with the community!
