Dennery District – fishing and farming on the Atlantic coast
Dennery District lies on the east coast of Saint Lucia, with Dennery Village as its seat. Its name dates from the French colonial era, and like much of the island, the district's past was shaped by plantations and by the enslaved Africans whose descendants built its villages and traditions after emancipation.
For generations, the Atlantic has been at the heart of daily life: Dennery is known as a fishing community, where boats land their catch and the village comes alive with the market. Farming is equally important, with lima beans, bananas and other tropical fruit grown on the fertile slopes. Do you know a story, tradition or family memory from Dennery? Share it with the community!
