Rivercess County – where the Cestos River meets the Atlantic

Rivercess County lies in south-central Liberia, where the Cestos River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital, River Cess, is a small coastal town whose life has long been shaped by the river and the sea, which provide fish and a route for travel and trade between the coast and the interior.

Much of the county is covered by forest, and its villages remain largely rural, with farming, fishing and forest products as the main sources of livelihood. Communities here have preserved their languages, customs and close family ties over generations. Rivercess is divided into six districts.
