County Tipperary – Ireland's largest inland county, founded after 1200

County Tipperary was established in the early 13th century, shortly after the Norman invasion of Ireland, and takes its name from the town of Tipperary. It is the country's largest inland county and shares a border with eight others, more than any other county in Ireland, which has long made it a crossroads for travel and trade through Munster. In 1838 it was divided into two ridings, North and South, and from 1899 until 2014 each of them had its own county council before the two were brought back together. Today around 167,895 people live here, and the largest towns are Clonmel, Nenagh and Thurles. Share your memories, stories and old photographs with us.
