Oshana Region – the towns of Oshakati, Ongwediva and Ondangwa

Oshana is named after the shallow seasonal watercourses that fill after the rains and give the flat northern landscape its distinctive pattern. Its capital is Oshakati, which together with Ongwediva and Ondangwa forms an urban cluster that is the second largest concentration of population in Namibia after Windhoek. These three towns have grown into each other along the main road, with markets, schools, hospitals and businesses serving a wide area of the north. Between them lie open fields, homesteads and the oshanas themselves, which shape farming and travel throughout the year.
