Denigomodu – the most populous district of Nauru

Denigomodu, in the western part of the island, is the most populous district in Nauru and its largest settlement by population. As of 2021 around sixteen per cent of everyone living in Nauru, roughly 1,900 people, had their home here. Much of that is explained by The Location, the expatriate housing compound that grew up in the district and gave it a distinctly mixed community. That combination of island neighbourhood and workers' settlement has shaped Denigomodu's everyday life for decades, from schooling to sport to the rhythm of the working week. Today it remains the busiest corner of the island. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, family stories and photographs of the district.
