Ijuw district – the least populated district in Nauru

Ijuw, in the north-east of the island, is the least populated district in Nauru. In 2021 just 276 people lived across its 1.1 square kilometres, which makes it one of the quietest corners of an already small country. It belongs to the Anabar constituency, sharing its political representation with neighbouring districts along the north-eastern coast. The setting is classic Nauru: the ocean on one side, the raised interior on the other, and a narrow coastal strip where houses, roads and daily life are concentrated. That closeness gives the district a strong sense of community. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, family stories and photographs of Ijuw.
