Milne Bay Province – a province of more than 600 islands
Milne Bay is a province of the sea as much as of the land: more than 600 islands lie within its waters, about 160 of them inhabited, spread across some 252,990 square kilometres of ocean alongside 14,345 square kilometres of land. Its people speak around 48 languages, most of them Austronesian, and seafaring has linked these islands for centuries. Alotau is the provincial capital. Today tourism, oil palm and gold mining on Misima Island stand alongside many small village projects growing cocoa and copra. Members are invited to share their own memories, stories and photographs of island life in Milne Bay.
