Central Province – the southern coast around the national capital
Central Province runs along the southern coast of Papua New Guinea, from beaches and mangroves inland towards the foothills of the mountains. With about 237,016 inhabitants spread over nearly 30,000 square kilometres, it is a province of villages, gardens and fishing grounds. Unusually, its seat of government lies outside its own borders, in the Port Moresby suburb of Konedobu within the National Capital District. That closeness to the capital has long shaped travel, work and family ties across the province, while many communities keep their own languages and customs. We invite members to share their memories, family stories and photographs of Central Province.
