Chimbu Province – at the foot of Mount Wilhelm, the country's highest peak

Chimbu, also spelled Simbu, lies in the Highlands Region of Papua New Guinea, and its best-known landmark is Mount Wilhelm, the highest mountain in the country, which rises on the boundary between eastern Simbu and western Madang Province. Steep ridges, narrow valleys and high gardens have shaped how people settle and farm here for generations. The province covers 6,112 square kilometres and recorded a population of 376,473 at the 2011 census, making it one of the most closely settled parts of the highlands. Kundiawa is the provincial capital. Members are warmly invited to share their own memories, family stories and photographs of Chimbu.
