Western Highlands Province – coffee and tea country around Mount Hagen

The Western Highlands are known above all for their gardens and plantations: tea and coffee grown in the high valleys have shaped work, trade and daily rhythms here for decades. Mount Hagen, the provincial capital, grew into one of the main centres of the highlands and a meeting point for people from a wide area. With 362,850 inhabitants at the 2011 census in an area of only 4,299 square kilometres, the province is the most densely populated in the country apart from the National Capital District. Members are warmly invited to share their own stories, memories and photographs of the Western Highlands.
