Koror – Palau's busiest state and one of the children of Milad
In Palauan oral tradition Koror is one of the children of Milad, which gives it an important place in customary belief, and it is home to the clan of the Ibedul, a high chief of Palau. Its traditional villages spread across both the volcanic land and the rock islands, where many stone platforms, the odesongel, served as clan cemeteries while other stone features stand as shrines. The lagoon was always a vital source of food. In the twentieth century Koror was the capital of the South Seas Mandate, and today it is the country's main commercial centre and most populous state.
