Aimeliik – ancient terraces and the tomb of Malsol

Aimeliik is counted among the most ancient villages of Palau and is best known for its hillside terraces and its bai, and for Malsol's Tomb, the place where tradition holds that the warrior Malsol is buried. At least seven traditional village sites existed here, set on the fertile strip along the coast and around the bay, with stone platforms serving as clan cemeteries and shrines, taro swamp gardens and terraced slopes. The territory was governed by Spain until 1899, then by Germany, and from 1919 by Japan, before United States administration after the Second World War. Share your memories and photographs with us.
