Ngaraard – a village history told through four eras
Ngaraard tells its past in four eras, from the Spanish period through the German and Japanese administrations to the time after the Second World War. Oral history recalls a priest, Father Luis, who lived at Elab during the Spanish era and later fell ill on his way to Ngchesar, being cared for at Melekeok until his death. Under German rule people were required to plant crops, one reason often given for the many coconut palms in Palau, and some from Ngaraard went to Angaur to work in the phosphate mines. Members are warmly invited to share their memories, stories and photographs.
