Central Province – Tulagi and the islands of the Nggela group
Central Province brings together the Russell Islands, the Nggela or Florida Islands and Savo Island, a compact territory of 615 square kilometres set in the waters north of Guadalcanal. Its capital is Tulagi, a small harbour town that served as the administrative centre of the Solomon Islands before the capital moved to Honiara, and whose sheltered anchorage still shapes daily life. The province has grown steadily, from 26,051 residents in 2009 to 30,326 in 2019. Fishing, gardening, copra and boat travel connect its scattered villages.
