Glacis – a northern district of Mahé with Mamelles Island

Glacis lies in the North Region of the island of Mahé and covers some seven square kilometres of steep coast and hillside. The district also encompasses the uninhabited Mamelles Island, about thirteen kilometres to the northeast of Mahé, and the tiny Brisan Rocks that lie in between, so its territory extends well out into the Indian Ocean. Between the censuses of 2002 and 2010 its population grew from 3,576 to 3,833, a steady increase reflecting the growth of the island's north. Homes here climb the slopes above the sea.
